Security advice for cardholders

Barclaycard Secure

Barclaycard Secure, provided in association with "Verified by Visa", protects your card against unauthorised use when you shop online at participating retailers.

When you make a purchase in a shop using your credit card, you're asked to enter a PIN number to validate the transaction. Barclaycard Secure allows you to validate transactions you make over the internet in a similar way.

How it works

  1. When you register your Barclaycard for this free service you'll be asked to choose a password for your card.
  2. Then, when you make an online purchase with a participating retailer, during the secure sales process you'll be asked to enter this password.
  3. When your password is entered correctly the transaction will be authorised straight away as usual.

If the password entered is incorrect, the transaction will be declined to protect you from possible fraud.

Even if you've not registered for the service, sometimes participating retailers will ask you whilst you are making an online purchase if you would like to register. It is safe to register, however please check the retailer's information to ensure they are a member of the "Verified by Visa".
